Artist Bio

Antonio Arrieta is a Colombian artist currently working and living in Colorado United states of America. Born in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, in 1951. He graduated from the University of Atlántico Bellas Artes faculty in 1972, with a degree in Fine Arts. From 1993 to 1998 studied art history, fine arts, theatre and humanities, receiving a Master’s degree in humanities from the University of Colorado with an emphasis in Fine Arts and theatre. He has been an artist and a teacher exhibiting his work in many cities, galleries, universities, museums, and communities’ art centers, small towns, in countries around the world, especially in Colombia, Europe, and the United States.

Antonio came to the United States after winning a second prize in art from the Institute Colombiano of Education and technical studies in the exterior, to study and to visit art schools, museums, and galleries in the United States. However, after visiting the United States and Canada, he chose to extend his travels to Europe living in Switzerland and France for almost four years. While abroad, he traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Back in Switzerland, he decided to go back to the United States in Colorado, traveled throughout the States, Mexico, and South America.

Now living and working in Colorado, he will continue promoting his art, teaching, and producing new pieces

BIOGRAFÍA:

Antonio Arrieta es un artista Colombiano que actualmente vive y trabaja en Colorado Estados Unidos de Norte América. Nació en la ciudad de Barranquilla, Colombia Sur América, en 1951.Se graduó de la Universidad del Atlántico Facultad de Bellas Artes en el año 1972 con un título en Arte plásticas. Desde 1993 hasta 1998 estudio historia del arte, teatro, artes plásticas, y humanidades, recibiendo un Master de la Universidad de Colorado en humanidades con énfasis en Artes plásticas y teatro. Él ha sido un artista y maestro exhibiendo su arte en muchas ciudades, galerías, universidades, museos centros de arte de la comunidad, pequeños pueblos y países alrededor del mundo especialmente en Colombia, Europa, y los Estados Unidos de América. Antonio viajo a los Estados unidos después de ganar el Segundo puesto en Artes plásticas otorgado por el Instituto Colombiano de Educación y Estudios Técnicos en el exterior, para estudiar y visitar escuelas de artes, museos y galerías en los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, después de visitar los Estados unidos y Canadá, decidió extender sus viajes hasta Europa, viviendo en Suiza y Francia por casi cuatro años. Mientras vivió en el extranjero viajo por Europa, El medio oriente y Asia. De regreso a Suiza decidió regresar a los Estados Unidos en Colorado y viajar por todos los estados del país y visitar, México y Sur América. Actualmente trabaja y reside en Colorado donde, continúa promoviendo su arte ensenando y produciendo nuevas piezas.

Artist Statement

My name is Antonio Arrieta: I was born in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia in 1951, a place where I experience my youth and a natural way of living appreciating the environment that was around me, the tropical colors, my culture, the Carnaval (Mardi Gras), the Caribbean Influence, the ocean, the music, and much more. These influences you can see them in my art, in my work and in life style. For example, the colors that we see in nature like the rainbow representing, red, yellow, blue, green, orange, indigo and violet the colors of the night. Theses colors we eat them, touch them, and we see them in nature in plants, fruits, animals, and so on there are colors everywhere.

For a long-time artist, I have been inspired to paint fruits, animals, plants, mountains, and capture what I see in the environment to be painted. In my case art for me is experimental, I experiment with all source of media acrylics, oils, watercolors, etc. Things that I capture are in my surroundings, things that get my attention, sometimes objects that we deal with in our everyday life and create ideas to paint them in series or a theme. I paint still life pictures, but I created my own style and I call them interior landscapes which are very simple, so I called a simply art. In my interior Landscapes, here I used the space to create an atmosphere of tranquility where you find and feel peace.

In my technique colors are very important and they must be totally clean and uniform, it’s very tedious work but it must be executed in this particular form. My idea of painting art comes from my experiences after working artistically for a long time to get better in what I do academically and constructively.

My paintings speak for themselves when it comes to style as for the spectator they can called anything they want according to the people own interpretation realism, surrealism, super realism, hyperrealism, that is what art is all about to let the spectator to express himself positive or negatively, there is when the people becomes to be part of my work. I just was working on a painting and try to make it the best way I could to complete the idea. Most of my paintings comes from real events like my son's wedding inspired me to paint a champagne glass, the art in every picture tells the story so you can create your own story too.

DECLARACIÓN DEL ARTISTA:

Mi nombre es Antonio Arrieta: Nací en la ciudad de Barranquilla, Colombia en 1951 ciudad donde experimenté mi juventud y la forma natural de vivir apreciando el ambiente a mi alrededor, los colores tropicales, mi cultura, el Carnaval, la influencia Caribeña, el mar, la música muchas cosas más. Estas influencias se pueden apreciar en mi arte en mi trabajo y en mi estilo de vida. Por ejemplo, los colores que vemos en la naturaleza como el arcoíris que representa, el rojo, amarillo, azul, verde, anaranjado, índigo, violeta, y los colores de la noche. Estos colores podemos probarlos, tocarlos y verlos en la naturaleza las plantas, las frutas, animales, en fin, vemos colores en todas partes. Durante todo este tiempo de ser artista, he estado inspirado en pintar frutas, animales, plantas, montañas, o sea capturar lo que veo en el ambiente para que pueda ser pintado. En mi caso el arte para mi es experimental, yo experimento con toda clase de acrílicos, aceites, colores de agua, etc. cosas que puedo capturar en mi alrededor, y que llaman mi atención, algunas veces objetos con los cuales lidiamos en nuestra vida cotidiana y crear ideas para pintarlos en series o temas. Yo pinto cuadros de naturaleza muerta, pero he creado mi propio estilo el cual llamo paisajismo interior, son muy simples y es denominado como arte simple, en mis paisajes de interiores, yo utilizo un espacio para crear una atmosfera de tranquilidad donde puedes sentir y encontrar paz. En mis técnicas los colores son muy importantes, tienen que ser limpias y uniformes es un trabajo tedioso, pero tiene que ser ejecutado en esta forma particular. Mis ideas de pintar vienen de mis experiencias después de haber trabajado artísticamente por mucho tiempo para mejorar en lo que hago académica y constructivamente. Mis pinturas hablan por sí solas cuando se trata de estilo para que los espectadores puedan llamarlas como quieran de acuerdo con sus propias interpretaciones, realismo, surrealismo, súper realismo, hiperrealismo Así es el arte, dejar que el espectador exprese sus opiniones positivas o negativo. Es ahí cuando las personas hacen parte de mi trabajo. Recientemente he estado trabajando en una pintura y tratando lo mejor forma posible de completar la idea. Muchas de mis pinturas vienen de eventos reales como por ejemplo en la boda de mi hijo me inspire en pintar una copa de champaña. El arte en cada pintura cuenta una historia así que ustedes también pueden crear la suya propia.
