Jeannie DeMarinis

Artist Statement

I paint from life. The immediacy of painting the human figure with its endless nuances and variations is riveting. Likewise, landscape painting with its constantly changing light, seasons and weather conditions is a constant challenge to me. In the last several years I have been especially drawn to painting at places where I find people, color and movement, which includes parks, outdoor cafes and farmers markets. I paint on site and love to capture the dynamic interactions of  people in these out door contexts. I strive to bring the vibrancy of these scenes to the canvas so that viewers can also experience the moment. When I create larger studio paintings I use drawings and paintings that I have done from live sources for reference and inspiration.
